Shameful Self-Promotion

Magazine publishers have banded together, launching a magazine-ad campaign to promote the desirability of magazine ads.  Supposedly they'll be running about 1,400 pages-worth of ads in several major publications; maybe they're willing to devote this much "premium" ad-space because they couldn't sell it in the first place.

This is sort of like how Jiffy Lube, when business is slow, will have its idle workers stand on the road-side holding signs that might as well say, "Trust Jiffy Lube, because (evidently) no one else does".

Magazine Ads:  Because we couldn't even sell one to our own mother.
